Word of departure

Word began leaking out yesterday that our online editor is headed for the dark side. Reportedly John Hassell will be moving to an unspecified position at Advance Internet at some point in the not too distant future.

Story is there may be some personnel changes coming at Advance Internet, but they are no more clear than what Mr. Hassell will be doing for them. One can only hope this will signal a sea change in Jersey City that will lead to changes here and there. But it is hard to hope for that given the resistance to cooperation and change that has persisted for years.

Still, good luck to Mr. Hassell in this new endeavor. Online innovation is likely critical to the long-term survival of all the Newhouse newspapers. If John can help that happen it will help us all.
